About DevLens

Our Mission

Observability has become too difficult for most teams. Our mission is to create simple and powerful tools that help teams of all sizes find and fix production issues faster, while maintaining control of your data and costs.

Why We Started

We founded DevLens for the reason many startups launch: frustration with how complex and expensive observability has become. As engineers and engineering leaders, we struggled as bills spiralled out of control when a poorly-placed bug hammered the logstream. We've been up late hunting for the telemetry we needed that had been subtly renamed by the platform. And we've had to launch the terminal to hunt down the real logs that weren't captured. We knew there was a simpler path.

Our Approach

We intentionally built fewer features than you'll find in most platforms for one reason: we know how few teams really use them. We also believe that AI, and the current footrace to adopt it, created a new opportunity to let your own platform provide the tools to dig into your proprietary logs instead of paying twice to ship them to some central platform. Our focus remains on helping your teams find the issue quickly, with the help of AI, so they can get off call. We do that by keeping the overall platform simple. You host it locally if you need or want to, to keep your costs lower and your compliance footprint smaller.

Open Source

We're not open source, by choice: it's simply too hard to build a decent business this way. We are, however, committed to ensuring that open source and nonprofits can use our tooling at a price they can afford: free. Contact us and tell us more about your program, and we'll send you a license key good for live.
